Why your Amazon deposit doesn’t match your sales

An Amazon bank deposit is a net settlement, not gross sales. Fees, refunds, reserves and adjustments can explain the difference; compare the same settlement period before treating a gap as missing money.

Start with the settlement, not the sales dashboard

Sales activity and bank deposits answer different questions. A sales report describes customer activity over its reporting period. A settlement report explains the amount disbursed after the account’s other movements. Compare currency, store, settlement ID and reporting dates before comparing totals.

Amazon’s payment guidance distinguishes available balances from amounts held in reserve. A reserve can move the timing of a deposit without being an additional selling fee. Your account’s transaction details are the place to investigate an unfamiliar hold.

A simple illustrative breakdown

ActivityAmount
Product sales$10,240.00
Refunds−$284.00
Marketplace fees−$1,530.80
Net settlement$8,425.20

Illustrative data only. Real statements may also contain taxes, reserves, reimbursements and other adjustments. This example is not a typical fee rate.

Trace the difference in four checks

  1. Locate the settlement report corresponding to the deposit, rather than choosing an unrelated calendar-month sales total.
  2. Separate sales, refunds, fees, taxes and balance movements. Avoid treating the entire deposit as gross sales.
  3. Check holds, reserve releases and adjustments against the statement’s opening and closing balances.
  4. Compare the statement’s disbursement amount with the actual bank credit. A posting record alone does not prove the bank received the funds.

Common questions

Does a smaller deposit mean Amazon charged an extra fee?+

Not necessarily. Refunds, tax movements, reserves and reporting-period differences can also affect a deposit. Trace the statement’s line items before assigning a cause.

Does posting a payout mean it is bank-matched?+

No. Preparing or posting accounting entries and matching an actual bank deposit are separate checks. Compare the bank credit with the settlement amount.
